Dmitry Peskov, the press secretary of the Russian President, suggested that before Russian President Vladimir Putin's potential visit to Armenia, Russia would likely seek assurances from its Armenian partners regarding Armenia’s decision to join the International Criminal Court (ICC).

“We have already said that, of course, the new reality related to Armenia's accession to the international statute cannot but harm our bilateral relations. Of course, it is very important here to receive certain assurances from our Armenian partners. That matter still needs to be resolved within the framework of bilateral dialogue, which we are willing to do,” Peskov told reporters.

Armenia officially became a member of the ICC on February 1, following the ratification of its Rome Statute in early October 2023. The Russian side had previously expressed disapproval of Yerevan’s plans to ratify this document.
