Turkish leadership wants to extend the mandate for the deployment of Turkish military personnel in Azerbaijan. The draft law was submitted to the Chairmanship of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey on behalf of Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the President of Turkey. 

Currently, the Turkey-Russia Joint Monitoring Center is operating in the Aghdam region to monitor the ceasefire. 

On November 16, 2020, the Grand National Assembly of Turkey gave the Turkish Armed Forces a one-year authorization to send soldiers to Azerbaijan. To establish a parliamentary cease-fire regime, prevent violations, ensure peace and stability in the region, and fulfill the obligations arising from the provisions of the agreement on strategic partnership and mutual assistance between Turkey and Azerbaijan to carry out the mission of the joint center for monitoring the ceasefire located in Aghdam, the military personnel was sent for one year.
