Moscow’s Plan in Separatist Abkhazia Focuses on Naval Logistics, Not Base Establishment
Badra Gunba, the de-facto President of separatist Abkhazia, recently stated that Moscow’s plan for the occupied city of Ochamchire does not involve establishing a naval base but envisions creating a “logistical support facility” for the Russian Black Sea Fleet.
Gunba emphasized that “the establishment of a Russian naval base as such is not planned,” though he confirmed ongoing plans to open “a logistical support facility specifically for the Black Sea Fleet” in Ochamchire.
He noted that a relevant agreement had already been signed between the parties. Gunba also added that, under this program, Russian and Abkhaz military forces would “deepen” their cooperation.
