Georgian Officials Engage US Congressional Delegation on Strategic Partnership, Regional Connectivity, and Economic Plans
On January 28, Maka Botchorishvili, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, met with a bipartisan delegation of staff members from the United States House of Representatives Committee on Foreign Affairs. During the meeting, Botchorishvili stated that the parties discussed key issues in Georgia–US relations and ongoing developments in the region, with an emphasis on the importance of peace and stable development. Particular attention was given to Georgia’s role as a regional connector, highlighting the transport potential of the Middle Corridor. The Georgian side welcomed the active engagement of the United States in the region. Members of the delegation reiterated the US’s unequivocal bipartisan support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, noting the active role of the US Congress in this regard. They also emphasized Georgia’s significance in both regional and global political and security matters. The Minister of Foreign Affairs reaffirmed Georgia’s readiness to reboot relations with the United States and renew the strategic partnership between the two countries.
On January 29, Levan Zhorzholiani, the head of the Georgian Dream government administration, held a meeting with staff members of the US House of Representatives Committee on Foreign Affairs. During the meeting, Zhorzholiani stated that discussions focused on Georgia–US relations and current developments in Georgia, including steps taken by the Georgian Dream government and plans to promote economic growth. "The importance of resetting US–Georgia relations was underscored during the meeting," the administration stated. Hope was expressed that the strategic partnership would be renewed and continue based on a concrete agenda reflecting the shared interests of both countries. Measures implemented in the fight against corruption were also addressed during the discussions.
