Azerbaijan Confirms Execution of Terrorist Behind Embassy Attack in Iran
On May 21, Aykhan Hajizade, the Spokesperson of Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry, announced that the death sentence issued on January 28, 2024, against Yasin Huseynzadeh, who carried out a terrorist attack on the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the Islamic Republic of Iran on January 27, 2023, resulting in one death and two injuries, had been executed.
During his statement, Hajizade noted that two employees of the Azerbaijani Embassy and a lawyer appointed by Azerbaijan observed the execution process. He emphasized that securing the harshest punishment for the perpetrator of this terrorist act was a principal demand from Azerbaijan to the Iranian side.
Hajizade also underscored the host country’s obligations under the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, highlighting Iran’s responsibility to ensure the safety of Azerbaijan’s diplomatic missions and prevent such attacks. He concluded by stressing the necessity of continuing joint efforts to foster Azerbaijan-Iran relations based on mutual respect and good neighborliness.
