| News, Politics, Azerbaijan

On June 18, according to the Ministry of Energy of Azerbaijan, discussions on energy cooperation between Azerbaijan and Romania were highlighted as a key element in the development of their strategic partnership. The matter was addressed during talks between Parviz Shahbazov, the Minister of Energy of Azerbaijan, and Marius-Gabriel Lazurca, the Presidential Adviser for National Security of Romania. Both sides emphasized that the energy sector remains a cornerstone of bilateral relations, particularly in the areas of oil and gas supplies and the expanding activities of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) in Romania, which were described as clear indicators of strong cooperation in the hydrocarbon field.

The "Caspian Sea – Black Sea – Europe" green energy corridor project was also a central topic of discussion. Lazurca underlined its strategic importance not only for participating countries but also for the broader energy security and sustainable development of the European Union, noting that Azerbaijan plays a significant role as an energy partner within this initiative.

It was stated during the meeting that the feasibility study results for the project are expected to be presented in the near future. The initiative is anticipated to generate long-term economic and energy benefits for producer countries, including Azerbaijan, as well as for Romania, Hungary, and other Central and Eastern European states. The sides additionally exchanged views on Romania’s ongoing energy sector reforms and explored prospects for further expanding bilateral cooperation in the energy domain.
