Amirbayov: "Baku Expects Amendments to be Made to the Constitution of Armenia"
On August 12, Elchin Amirbayov, the Special Representative of the President of Azerbaijan, stated that the signing of the joint declaration between the United States, Azerbaijan, and Armenia in Washington confirmed Baku's commitment to the peace agenda. He noted that the clause on initialing the peace agreement implied the need for further steps toward its signing and ratification.
Amirbayov stated that Baku expects amendments to be made to the Constitution of Armenia to remove what he described as territorial claims against Azerbaijan. He also emphasized the importance of the declaration’s provision on opening transport and communication links between the two countries, including ensuring unimpeded communication between mainland Azerbaijan and Nakhchivan.
